We have been involved with raising money for Snow-Camp for 5 years now and it’s a chance to give back to the community, raise funds and have fun. This year was no exception as one of our Directors, Mark Woolhouse headed to beautiful Courmayeur, Italy for his biggest alpine challenge to date!
Snow-Camp are a charity that engages inner-city young people through skiing and snowboarding to provide life skills training, nationally recognised qualifications and work experience to increase their motivations and aspirations, enabling them to gain employment in the snowsports industry and beyond.
Our Director Mark Woolhouse and his team, the Aosta Aces, arrived in Courmayeur to undertake five different snowsport challenges over 2 days which would test their skills, capabilities and their physical endurance. From snowshoe hikes, laser biathlons, a slalom course, team orienteering and finally a team distance challenge, where each team were handed a GPS tracker and requested to ski as far as possibly could on the surrounding mountains – you can probably imagine how shattered the team were. However, they persevered and finished in 9th place.
Aside from all the fun, sunshine and skiing it was worth remembering what a fantastic cause they were raising money for, and one we at Capital City have enjoyed doing so for many years.
Snow-Camp Founder and Director Dan Charlish says: ‘The funds raised at our various fundraising events are invaluable to our work and help us reach more young people with our programmes across the UK. I believe Mark has been involved and supporting Snow-Camp for more than 5 years now and we are so grateful for his support at many of the charities events over the last few years.’
If you’ve enjoyed reading and you think you might be up for the challenge next year, then we know Snow-Camp would love to hear from you.
